Sip Locally™ means
Promoting local businesses
We strive to use local products and services whenever and wherever possible at Local Coffee + Tea. Sip Locally and join us in supporting local businesses. We are proud to work with a long list of local partners and are constantly searching for more local businesses to work with. Your suggestions are always welcome.
You may ask, what is local? An excellent question best answered by you. Local could be your neighborhood restaurant, a citywide garden center or a company headquartered in your region. Regardless of your definition, supporting independent or locally based businesses keeps your dollars in the local economy.
Embracing the concept of Sip Locally requires a few small changes to your daily, weekly, or monthly customs. And Sip Locally is not a secret, so broadcast the idea far and wide. Click here for a list of our local partners.
and Protecting local environments
We are dedicated to promoting sustainable living and building a strong community. Sip Locally encourages everyone to be sensitive to how our actions impact the local environment.
At Local Coffee + Tea we have a variety of programs in place designed to protect our local environments including:
- All Spent coffee grounds and tea leaves are composted,
- We aggressively recycle plastic milk jugs, paper products and glass items at our shops and in our neighborhood,
- Employees are offered daily bonuses for walking or biking to work,
- Customer Discounts are available to walkers and bikers,
- All coffee is roasted locally and baked goods are purchased from a local bakery.
- We are proud to be the first restaurant in Sarasota County to be accepted to the Green Business Partnership Program. Both our Siesta Key and Selby Garden shops have attained this local distinction.
- Local Coffee + Tea is a proud sponsor of eFest, Florida’s green living music and arts festival. In 2007, we custom roasted eFest Organic 2007 for the event and donated $1 per pound to a local charity.
- Local Coffee + Tea at Siesta Village features a community table made from reclaimed gym flooring from Old Sarasota High. Obtained from Sarasota Architectural Salvage, two, 4-foot pieces of the historic gym floor were converted into an 8-foot long and kidney shaped table at the center of the seating area, designed by Jenna Ohnemus, a student at Ringling School of Art and Design and crafted by David Lennard, a Sarasota custom furniture builder.
- Keep Sarasota County Beautiful recognized Local Coffee + Tea with their ‘Extra Mile Award’ in May 2007.
